Thursday Practice

We will have Thursday night practice this week (Aug 6) with everyone (Varsity and JV) from 7:30 to 9:30. We will be working on dances that will be competed at the upcoming BYU competitions and the OHS competition:

• American Style Cha Cha
• International Style Rumba

JV Coach

We have selected a coach for the JV team, who will also act as our assistant director of Ballroom at OHS:

Krista Treu Derington

We are looking forward to have Krista working with us at OHS! She is well qualified and excited to work with our team.

Some of you may know Krista, she is Casey and Carli Treu’s older sister. She has been dancing Ballroom since she was in elementary school and was most recently on the BYU Ballroom Touring Team with our brothers. She has competed in all Ballroom dance styles at the championship level for several years. She has won several competitions in several different styles in many different age categories throughout the years.

Krista is a dance major at BYU and has been trained in many other dance styles besides Ballroom. She was on the Dance Company at Timpanogos in high school. (Don’t worry, we have already started converting her to be a Tiger!) Krista will be a great addition to the Ballroom Team at OHS!

We are still working out the details for the JV team with the administration, and it is not an official class yet. We’ll let everyone know when all the details have been worked out and JV practices and activities will start.

New JV Team Member

After the recent tryouts, we have decided to place Robbie Robinson on the JV team for this coming year. Congratulations Robbie and welcome to the team!

Second Round of Tryouts

We have had several people express interest in being on next year’s team. We have decided to hold another round of tryouts for next year’s team. Noone who has already tried out needs to come to these (unless you want to help us run them). These are for people who have not tried out yet.

We would like to do these next week.  As we told you before, we need to know if any of your friends or people you know are interested in being on team next year. If so, can they come to all of the following meetings/rehearsals for tryouts next week

June 23 – Tuesday      9:00am – 10:30am  OHS E-28
June 24 – Wednesday 9:00am – 10:30am  OHS E-28
June 26 – Friday         8:30am – 9:30am  OHS E-28 

Tuesday and Wednesday Michelle will go over things about the team and teach those trying out some Cha Cha and Waltz.

Friday will be the most important day for them to be there.  We both will be there to watch them and make our decision if we put them on team or not.

Please let us know as soon as possible if you know anyone interested in being on team.

“Don’t Stop the Music” OHS Ballroom in Concert May 15 & 16

The OHS Ballroom Teampresents their Spring Concert “Don’t Stop the Music!”  Performances will be May 15th & 16th at 7:00 pm in the OHS Elison Auditorium.  Tickets will be on sale soon for $5 per person.

This exciting show will feature several of our most popular and new numbers including “Fasten Your Seatbelts”  – our new funky Blacklight routine, as well as other new routines!  Also featured in our show will be several of this year’s top national youth dancers.  Please join us for a wonderful and entertaining evening of many different styles of ballroom dance!

OHS Ballroom Team 2009-10 Tryouts

OHS Ballroom Team Tryouts are coming up soon!  Any of next year’s Freshman through Seniors are welcome to tryout!  Students should attend four days of auditions held May 19th – 22nd at 2:45 – 4:00pm in the OHS Dance Room E-28.  A mandatory parent meeting will also be held on Tuesday May 19th at 7:00 pm in the OHS Choir Room for all parents of students trying out for next year’s 2009-2010 Ballroom Team.  Contact us if you have any questions.
