OHS Tiger Classic Entry Form

Please note that on some preliminary forms that we gave to coaches, there was an error. Please note these changes:

• Adult Pre-Champ Latin dances will be Cha Cha/Samba/Rumba (CC/S/R), not CC/S/PD
• We added an Open West Coast Swing category

On Thursday, Varsity will begin at 9:00am with lunch provided at noon.  Then the JV team will join us at 12:30pm. JV, please be on time and eat before you come.  The camp will continue for both teams until 6:00pm.  We will have a water break in the afternoon and everyone will receive a water bottle.  If students are worried that they may be hungry in the afternoon and would like to bring a snack they may do so.    

On Friday, both Teams will meet from 9:00am – 6:00pm.

On Saturday, we will have a Car Wash from 10:30am – 2:30pm.

Saturday Evening we will be having a Party at Brad and Michelle’s house from 6:00-11pm!  A wonderful parent has donated dinner for the party at 6:00pm.  We will need an RSVP for dinner on Saturday night.  Please let us know Thursday if you are able to come to dinner.

Please come ready to learn with your best attention span and high energy levels!  We will be doing a lot of dancing throughout the weekend!

Remember shoes are due by the first practice. Here is info about where you can get the from the Team Agreement:

Footwear

• Footwear must be worn at all times in Team; no bare feet, socks (without shoes), or flipflops.
• You need to obtain a Ballroom dance shoe by July 15, 2010:
  • Ladies – Tan Satin Latin Sandal – 2 ½ inch heel.
  • Men – A Black Calf Standard shoe (low heel).
• Recommended: Supadance, International, Freed. Problematic brands (they don’t last long):  Capezio and Dancesport.
• Shoes should fit snugly, but not hurt. Ladies shoes will not stretch. Men’s shoes will stretch a little bit.
• If you feel you cannot afford the footwear please speak with us.  We know of used shoe options.

• All dancing activities will be in the new school building Dance Room. Whenever you go to the new school, please enter the “East” doors (they are labeled with a poster) by the tennis courts on the east side of the school. Enter the doors and the Dance Room is all the way down the hall to your right (North). The Dance Room is the farthest North room in the entire building.
• Current teams (2009-10) come at 9:00 am tomorrow. Next year’s teams (2010-11) come at 1:00 pm.
• Saturday’s start time has been moved back to 10:00 am. Everyone should come at 10:00 am on Saturday to the Dance Room.
• Please wear clothes you can dance in!
• Remember to bring goodies/munchies/drinks to the party Saturday night. The party will be at Brad & Michelle’s house starting at 7:00.

If you did not receive an email with the Retreat schedule (below), please contact us. Many of the email addresses we have are bouncing back to us as invalid. Also, please add our email addresses to your address book. This will prevent our messages from being filtered to your spam file.

If you cannot attend a part of the Retreat, please let us know ASAP so we can plan for the correct amount of people coming.

Students and Parents,

Congratulations to you students that were placed on the Junior Varsity team for next school year! As you know, there were many students who tried out for the team, and it was difficult for us to decide where to place students for next year. We have received a few questions already about the JV team and wanted to provide you an update regarding that team.

First of all, we want to point out that the JV and Varsity teams are still subject to change. We anticipate there will be some students (both men and ladies) that will be moved from the JV to Varsity team before the school year starts. Those decisions will be based on how things go during the summer. We have practices and activities planned for the summer and hope students will take advantage of these to improve their dancing and performance. We have not made final decisions regarding who will be moved, so we will be watching the dancers closely to determine who is improving and working hard.

Second, some students have already informed us of some scheduling difficulties regarding the plan to have JV during B4 (Day 2 Period 4) next year. We are still finalizing who the JV coach will be for next year. When the coach has been arranged, their schedule may necessitate a change to a different period or day. For now, we recommend students participate in all practices and activities. When the schedule for next year has been finalized, we can discuss any difficulties that may arise. We will also add all students to the appropriate class period at that time.

We look forward to next year! It will be exciting, with many new team members and a new coach!

* We have not yet received the Team Agreement with the student and parent signatures from these students. Team membership is contingent on having this form turned in to Brad and Michelle.

This year we have a new Standard Medley based on movie music (the theme of the concert). We also have a new Viennese Waltz choreographed by us (Brad and Michelle) and a new Jive. We also have a JV team this year. Varsity and JV will do a Lindy together and the JV team will do 4 numbers. We’ll have the current national Latin champions and national cabaret champions performing also.
